About the School

Our school motto is "The Grove School Cares". We aim to provide a safe, caring environment where all children can achieve their true potential.

We pride ourselves in the quality of education and on extra curricular activities we offer our children. Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends have a very important role to play to help us in our task.

We involve the school in all community events and work with the Return to learn Organisation to provide courses for people living in the area. Personal, social and health education permeate all areas of the school life.

We have implemented the SEAL initiation into school.

We have a successful Early Years Unit catering for Nursery and Reception age children. Here children are given opportunities to develop in a stimulating environment. It is a wonderful experience to visit our Early Years Unit and see the dedication and hard work involved.

The commitment to excellence continues throughout other areas in school. We are the first school in Derwentside to achieve the healthy school award. We have now received this award for 9years. In November 2006 we were successfully re-assessed for Investors in People for the third time and awarded the accolade again. The Basic Skills Quality Mark was awarded for the third time in December 2009. .

We link with other countries via projects and sponsoring two children in Nepal, attending European events organized by the International Department at Durham County Hall and we teach French in all years between Y 1 and Y6. This ensures our children have understanding of multi-cultural diversity.

Our children all receive an individual education depending upon their needs. We pride ourselves upon this aspect to our school. All children make progress and say that they enjoy being in school.

Staff development is based upon individual needs identified in the Raising Achievement Plan.
